Mental Resilience

By Looking After Me

Mental resilience is our ability to adapt to stress, challenges, and adversity

It helps us stay calm, motivated, and productive and helps us cope with work pressures, such as deadlines and unexpected issues in life.

It’s so important to develop mental resilience to:

  1. Reduces stress and burnout
  2. Improve problem-solving and adaptability
  3. Enhance workplace morale and teamwork
  4. Helps in crisis management

Common triggers that can challenge our resilience are

  1. Stressful life events.
  2. Emotional and psychological challenges
  3. Unexpected changes in life
  4. Social and relationship struggles
  5. High-pressure situations

We can’t prevent change or challenges but we can be prepared and strong enough to cope!

Coping strategies

Here are a few coping strategies

  • Deep breathing and grounding techniques help to reset your nervous system and calm down.
  • Reframing negative thoughts
  • Identify a negative thought (e.g., ‘This is too hard’)
  • Reframe it positively (e.g., ‘This is a challenge, but I can handle it step by step’)
  • Focus on what you can control
  • Journal your thoughts and feelings -Write down 3 things that went well today, focus on even small successes, this helps shift focus to a positive mindset.
  • Visualise your success - Close your eyes and visualize successfully handling a challenge, Imagine feeling calm, in control, and focused.

With small changes and being kind to yourself your mental resilience can grow….
